Drum Kit Lessons ...

Drum kit lessons are taught by both Lauren and Guy on an acoustic drum kit at the fully equipped “Jam Jar” teaching space in Derby. It is not essential that you have a kit at home to practice on straight away but it is highly recommended to make proper progress.

Jam Jar Music also provides drum lessons in schools. Please get in touch for school rates and further information.

Every drum lesson is tailored to the requirements and learning style of the individual pupil. Whilst many of my pupils follow a graded syllabus, exams aren’t for everyone and you don’t have to follow this style of learning if you would prefer not to. Here are these are some of the things you can expect to learn:

  • Rhythms/grooves

  • Fills

  • Rudiments

  • Reading music and music theory

  • Playing songs

  • Exploring different styles

  • Discovering your own music likes (and dislikes!)

  • Drumming games!

There is no minimum (or maximum!) age to begin learning to play the drums at Jam Jar Music. Lessons with the youngest pupils will focus mainly on simple time keeping and rhythm skills will prepare them for more complex drumming as they progress.

Bass Guitar Lessons …

Bass guitar lessons are taught by Guy. A guitar can be provided for the lessons if you do not have your own however it is highly recommended that you get your own to practice with between lessons to make proper progress.

Video Lessons …

I started offering video lessons at Jam Jar Music as a way to continue teaching pupils remotely during the coronavirus lockdown and are now offered as a long term solution for pupils who may struggle to get to the Jam Jar on a regular basis. I still believe there is a lot of value to be found in having a lesson in person so I would highly recommend that complete beginners attend a few lessons at the Jam Jar to get them started before switching over to video lessons. From there pupils can have the majority of their lessons remotely, many pupils who have remote lessons find it beneficial to come into the Jam Jar for one off lessons on a rota to suit them, for example once a month or during the school holidays. If you are interested in video lessons and would like to discuss it further then please get in touch. Please bear in mind that you will need your own equipment to conduct a video lesson from your home, click here to find out more about the technical requirements.
